Memorial Weekend

We enjoyed a pretty relaxed Memorial weekend… Friday night I worked late, much to Carrie and Ann-Michael’s chagrin. However, after I had completed a server software upgrade (geeky, I know!), I finally succumbed to their text messages and headed over to Berryhill for a few drinks. Here’s Carrie sipping her shot, as usual (that is, she usually sips them — she doesn’t usually have them)…

Carrie sipping a shot

Saturday was poker day (after I spend the morning fixing some server problems from the previous night’s upgrade!) and we had a pretty good turnout — JFLO, Aaron “Sincerely” Chadwick, Dangerous Dan, even Brendan! We started in the afternoon and by mid-evening had a nice juicy game going! Thanks for all that donated! :) Videos and photos later on FTLPoker. Yes, those are my two racks on the right — with green chips ($25) at the bottom — woohoo!!!

Poker cash and chips

We were pretty lazy on Sunday — just hanging around the house. Well, Carrie had some things that she was actually doing that was productive — I, however, was doing nothing and it was great! :)
Matt and Kendall invited us to Baker’s Street that night, but Carrie didn’t feel up to it. I finally joined them around 9:30pm for a drink and to hang out. It’s so cool to be able to walk over there! Sweet!!!

I neglected to take any “happy” pictures of the Tucker’s, but here’s one of Kendall pissed because she found out that Matt owes me some money for funding his Full Tilt account! DOH!!! Matt — don’t ask me this stuff in front of your wife if you don’t want her to know! LOL

Kendall not happy with Matt

Monday we headed over to the Lyons for some lunch and to hang out with some friends and neighbors…

Here’s Irma feeding Kendall and trying to brainwash her into bleeding maroon…

And Brendan with his new camera…

Brendan's new camera

…which looks suspiciously like the camera that I just bought!! Except that his is silver, obviously inferior!!!

If you are looking for a cool, very portable camera, I would highly recommend the Sony Cybershot that we both (now) have! I picked it up at Amazon (of course) along with a 4GB memory card and reader — all for under $500! Pretty sweet!!! The camera is an 8MP, which is great for photos and has a 5x optical zoom. It also does video, which is way cool!

After the party was over and we were the last stragglers still hanging around (we should have realized something was up when Julie started flashing the lights and saying, “Thanks for coming y’all!!!”) we had a special treat — first a song from Jack, then a serious Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots standoff!!!

So, first, here is Jack — he wanted to make a video and wanted to sing Blue Cadillac

After that Brendan had to fix the Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots game that she picked up at a classic game store or something. He then proceeded to trash his kids, followed by his wife!

Here’s Bren tearing up the game against Hallie and Jack…

Then Julie decided to take a turn — and make Brendan give HER the blue robot (obviously the blue robot is what was enabling Brendan to win so much, right?). Brendan proceeded to PWN her — with both the red and then the blue robot! Check out around the 50 second mark where Julie gets her head knocked off and resets it, only to have Brendan knock it off again about 0.3 seconds later! Hilarious!!!

Mid-Con Camp #2

Dsc00107

The SportsPlex - where it all went down over the weekend! Four courts with games going on from 8am until 10:30pm!

Dsc00068-1

JFLO (who was AWOL with some dentistry issues!) wanted some IU t-shirts, but the bookstore was closed. So I drove around campus just to check things out. I went back and got your shirts later JFLO, don’t worry. Hope you like pink!

Dsc00070

Cool IU clock - no excuse to be late for class!

Dsc00072

One of the many houses on fraternity / sorority row - I thought there were cool looking.

Dsc00074

We don’t need no stinkin’ signs!!!

Dsc00075

We have the GPSes!!!

Dsc00102

Brendan and his crew during a timeout. Yes, that is Forest yawning in the foreground!!!

Dsc00108

Brendan with our pimped out ride. You have to love Avis - we pull up on the shuttle bus and the driver says, “Mr. Batt, that is your car on the right.” The doors already open, keys in it, and someone there to help us with our bags. Sweet!

“Do we need directions?” the Avis lady asks. Of course not!! (Obviously she does not read my blog!)

Brendan smirking after pumping gas … want to know why? See the video below…

Travel started early on Friday

Travel started early on Friday. The hat is important as I got out of bed and threw it on so that I could just head to the airport! BTW, the “2 rolling-H” is Dan’s cattle brand - cool, huh?

Brendan in the P-Club

Brendan in the P-Club — he normally just sneaks in, but he was legit this day!

Eric observing the action

Eric observing the action - he had some good comments to say about Brendan. I’m sure he’s also wondering where JFLO is … don’t worry JFLO — Brendan and I have already told Eric he can give us your games!

Texas Roadhouse for a late dinner

Texas Roadhouse by the hotel - something close by is important when you are eating dinner at 10:45pm!

Weird Do Not Disturb sign

Probably the weirdest Do Not Disturb sign I have ever seen! We made use of this a lot on Saturday recovering from working games. I had the pleasure of working the 8am shift - and have the 8am game tomorrow as well! Brendan slept in and finally rolled out of bed to go to lunch and work his 1pm game!

Holiday Inn Express

Note to JFLO - this is what a camp hotel room for two people should look like. Notice the two beds and no Mexican sleeping in the window!!!

It is a Holiday Inn Express, so Brendan and I are trying to use the infamous line on a coach … If a coach asks, “Do you even know how to referee?” our response is going to be, “No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.”

Update: Here’s a video of Brendan working his game on Friday - yes, that is me heckling him at the beginning of the clip. I took this with my new Sony Cybershot as well — way cool!

The weekend

Carrie and I had an enjoyable weekend this past Friday through Sunday. Friday night we just hung out at home, caught up on Grey’s, and chilled.
Saturday we got up and went to yoga together. Yes, yoga!!! We went to a seminar last weekend - 8am through 5pm (what was I thinking?!?!?) - and since then I have been going every day. I decided that it was about time for me to get into “camp shape”, since I have my first referee camp coming up this Friday. Other than Sunday, when Carrie and I decided to sleep in, I’ve gone everyday - that’s ten times in less than two weeks! I have to admit that I’ve already started to see some improvements, but I don’t expect anything major for another month or so. I think that I’m going to stick with it for a while and see what happens - it can’t hurt!

Saturday night Carrie had a massaged scheduled with Arnie (Arnie and Jen own the BYTW studio for those of you that haven’t been following along), and Jen offered to cook us dinner that evening. So, Carrie and I headed over to the studio and had dinner with them - always good and always healthful! Then, while Carrie got her massage, Jen and I went and hung out at Cheesecake and just chilled for a while - Arnie and Carrie joined us when they were done and we called it a night.

Gwen StefaniSunday evening Carrie and I went to an open-house for an old friend of mine - Kristina Keller. Kristina and I worked together at Compaq and have stayed in touch over the years. It had been about four years since I saw her last - a happenstance meeting in the Greenspoint food court, of all places. She recently moved up to the Woodlands and bought a house not too far away from us, so we look forward to getting together with her more often!

After that, we headed over to the Gwen Stefani / Akon concert at the Pavilion — it was great! We love being able to walk over to concerts - how fun! We took my old sleeping bag over (old as in when-I-was-in-boy-scouts old) as a blanket to sit on, on the lawn, and had a nice, relaxing time. The weather was perfect with a nice breeze (although Carrie was a little chilly!) and it was nice just to chill out and listen to some great music. (And, yes, I am using the concert as an excuse to post a photo of Gwen on my blog!)

I’m headed to Indianapolis this Friday - more specifically, Indiana University in Bloomington - for my first officiating camp of the summer. JFLO and Brendan are going with me, so it should be a fun trip! JFLO and I already work for this coordinator (Mid-Con conference), so we will be trying to keep our jobs while Brendan tries to get hired (don’t think that we are giving up our spots for you Brendan!).

Other than that, not too much going on - although I did have a pretty good run playing poker last week. Carrie has been complaining that I hadn’t blogged, so I figured I would put something up here … although I may go on strike until she blogs again! :)

One Year!

0193
It’s hard to believe that it’s been a year since Carrie and I got married! That flew bye!

We had a nice weekend together over our anniversary doing yoga! Uh, yeah, that is not a misprint - we went to a yoga seminar on Saturday that consisted of one yoga class and a “posture clinic” all led by Bikram’s wife. She talked through each posture while the male and female yoga world champions demonstrated. How do I get roped into these things??? (Actually, it was pretty interesting)

On Sunday we got up, went to yoga again (sheesh!) and then headed to Tommy Bahamas for an anniversary lunch. On the way home we stopped by HEB to pick up a few things for home. While we were there, we stopped by the Hallmark aisle and “gave” each other cards — pretty funny!

I got us some tickets for next weekend to the Gwen Stefani with Akon concert at the Pavilion for our anniversary and Carrie was really excited about that! It’s really fun just to be able to walk over to concerts and then walk home! (And, yes, the first anniversary is “paper” and, yes, I knew that and considered it when buying the tickets…. Ahhhhhhhh!)
I was going through some of our photos from the wedding and thought that I would share some of my favorites … I really love the photos and they all bring back such great memories of an amazing day!
