Friday night at the Pavilion

Chris_brownCarrie was out and about today on her last day off and called me very excited — “Guess who is at the pavilion tonight?! Chris Brown!!” Apparently she was at Market Street and heard him warming up.

I checked their website and noticed that it wasn’t just Chris Brown, but also Ne-Yo, Juelz Santana, Lil’ Wayne and Dem Franchize Boyz! Sweet!

We were just hanging out at home, but kind of wanting to get out and do something… So, finally, just before 7pm, I said, “Why don’t we just go over to the concert?”

Dem_franchize_boyzCarrie was game so we got ready in about ten minutes and headed over with a blanket to go hang out on the lawn and listen. What’s up H-Town?!?!

The show was sweet!! (Or heavy or off the hook, if you prefer!)

We jammed out to Lean Wit It, Rock Wit ItI Think They Like Me, Run It, and a whole bunch of other tunes that you know if you listen to The Boxx

We texted Kelli and she was hella-jealous! However, she did have her chance to hang out with Lil’ Wayne not too long ago as he filmed part of his video for Fireman at Urban Living where she works (check out the video about the 3:20 mark and you’ll see the Urban Living building in the background).

We had a great, spontaneous time together and it was great to be able to walk back home afterwards!

L.A. in a day

I did something Wednesday that I had never done before – fly to the west coast and back in one day!

Our meeting went well, but ended early – around 4:30pm. I pulled out my BlackBerry and looked up flights at Continental.com and saw that the last flight was at 6:20pm. After a quick call to Continental ensuring that there was a seat and, most importantly, that I could keep my upgrade  we were on that flight headed back to Houston.

Left Houston at 7:45am, meeting in L.A. at 2:00pm, back home by 1:00am – kinda crazy!

I don’t have a lot more details to share at this point, but this sounds like really great opportunity — we’ll find out more over the next couple of weeks!

L.A.

I’m headed to L.A. tomorrow morning (7:45am flight – ouch!) for what I hope will be an awesome business meeting. It’s something that I think is going to be a pretty good opportunity for us! We’ll see what happens and I’ll keep everyone posted as soon as we know more.

Success

My friend Jen gave me a copy of this quote the other day from The Daily Guru – she said that she reads it to her husband Arnie every day. I think it’s a pretty good motivational message and the daily reading must be working well since their business seems to be taking off! I took her printout and taped it to my monitor so that I could reread it often…

Being Successful is a Choice You Make

Success doesn't come to you, you go to it.
Success doesn’t come to you, you go to it.

Your success isn’t a matter of luck,
it’s simply a matter of the choices you make.
Success isn’t something you can wait for,
it’s something you’ll achieve with effort over time.
Things won’t turn up in this world until you turn them up.

You can choose to be lazy or ambitious.
Stop and think about your choice again.
You always do your own choosing.

The great opportunity in your life is where you are right now.
Every situation, properly perceived, is an opportunity for you.

First, say to yourself what you would be,
then do what you have to do to make things happen.

Success is right in front of you.

Where were you…?

After clicking on some September 11th videos on YouTube, I ended up here. I thought this video had a great message…

The Where were you on that day? idea resonated with me. September 11th is an event that the next generation just won’t understand. It’s our parents’ Kennedy assasination and our grandparents’ Pearl Harbor – everyone that experienced those events knows exactly where they were at the very moment they were informed of their generation’s tragedy.

I was also moved by the annecdotes of the survivors – people that avoided tragedy that day because they slept through their alarm, got in a wreck, missed their subway / bus – or, as this short tribute points out – stopped to buy a band-aid for a blister caused by new shoes.

Those people thought that their day was getting off to a bad start, but in reality those small inconveniences saved their lives.

I wonder how often we get angry or upset about some event in our lives without realizing that we should really be thankful to have avoided a tragic alternative.
