DSL vs Cable

I was going to setup RoadRunner for the new house — $49.95 a month, but my experience is that cable is faster than DSL so it would be worth it. When talking with SBC and telling them that I wanted to cancel, they offered me a price of $26.95 for DSL with a guaranteed downstream of 768K and upstream of 384K. Plus, they threw-in a static IP address! Sold!

RoadRunner is still operating like a monopoly. When I called to cancel my installation order they did nothing to try to retain me as a customer.

Content is king!

Gerry McGovern has a great point in his recent article, Words come before looks in web design:

I once asked a graphic designer why he had locked the font size on his website. “If users were able to change the size, it would ruin the look of the page,” was his reply.

People don’t visit your site because of the pretty colors, fonts, or (generally) graphics. Sure, the aesthetics of your website are important, but if someone cannot read the content (because of the font size, colors, etc.) your site becomes useless.

Exploding cell phone

C|Net is reporting that some Kyocera SmartPhones have exploding batteries.

I checked mine and fortunately my battery is not of the exploding kind — the CV90-K2002-05 battery is the only one effected.

I just reserved a room at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside for $65 for this Saturday (Jan 24th). The rate on Expedia was $169.

I’m especially happy with this great deal because the Endymion Coronation Ball is being held at the Hilton. So, after a fun evening of dancing with Carrie we’ll just have to walk upstairs to our room.
